Partners In Health: Redefining the Possibilities of Health Care

"We save lives, revitalize communities and transform global health." These are the words that define Partners In Health, an organization with a medical and moral mission to provide preferential health care to poor people.

Partners In Health is a non-profit organization made up of a team of health professionals, academics and activists. The organization provides health services, provides training, conducts research and advocates for human rights worldwide. The two main purposes of the organization are to provide the benefits of modern medical science to those who need them and to act as an "antidote to despair".

Partners In Health was founded in 1987 by Jim Kim, Ophelia Dahl, Paul Farmer, Todd McCormack and Thomas J. White to provide medical services in certain regions of Haiti. Partners In Health has now expanded to geographically diverse locations including Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, Peru, Mexico, Russia, Dominican Republic and the Navajo Nation. They also have an expanding network of affiliate organizations in several other countries.

The main belief of the founders and current contributors of Partners In Health is that health is a human right that should be accessible to all. Co-founder Paul Farmer is an advocate for human rights, saying "the idea that some lives matter less is at the root of all that is wrong with the world". Putting this belief into practice, Partners In Health works toward a hopeful future and continues to redefine the possibilities of healthcare.
